Beavers Take 11th Place in Classic Sprints at USCSA Nationals

BEND, Oregon - The University of Maine at Farmington women's nordic team finished 11th place in Wednesday afternoon's 1.5K individual classic sprint heats. The three Beaver skiers combined to total 93 points in the 11th place effort. 

The event commenced with time trials, to seed the top-30 skiers to advance them into the quarterfinal round. From there, the 30 skiers who qualified were seeded 1 thru 30 and divided into five quarterfinal heats, consisting of six skiers in each. The top-two skiers from each quarterfinal, plus the remaining two quickest times then advanced into the semifinal round. The top-three skiers in each semifinal advanced to the Final for a chance to earn a medal.

For the Beavers, junior Ayla Bodach-Turner, a two-time All-American in this event, finished her qualifier with a time of 4:52.6 advancing into the quarterfinals as the number 22 overall seed. In the quarterfinal round, Bodach-Turner placed fifth overall in her heat, posting a time of 5:54.1. Overall Bodach-Turner placed 21st, earning 19 points.

Sophomore Cora Treiss (Berlin, N.H.) had a strong race in the qualifying heat, finishing the 1.5K in 5:18.4. Treiss finished just 14 seconds outside the top-30, placing 39th overall. Treiss tallies 33 points for the day.

First-year Kelsey McCrum (Greenbush, Maine) raced to a time of 6:13.4, good for 53rd overall place. McCrum also amassed 47 points with her finish.

Amaeli Kam-Macgruder of St. Olaf earned the gold medal. Kam-Macgruder was the two-seed after the qualifying round but overcame her teammate, top-seeded Lily Hubanks to earn the top spot on the podium. St. Olaf as a team also earned the National Championship distinction, posting seven points, running away from the competition.

UP NEXT

The Beavers are off tomorrow before returning to racing on Friday in a 15K Classic Mass Start. The event is slated to begin at 1:00 PM EST on Friday.
