RUMFORD, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's alpine team delivered a dominant performance on Saturday in a Reynolds Division giant slalom event held at Black Mountain. The Beavers placed three skiers on the podium and four others inside the top ten en route to a first-place finish.
Beaver Skiers:
Senior Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine) delivered the two fastest runs of the day en route to earning the gold medal. Roy finished his first run in 36.06 seconds and his second in 34.62 seconds, totaling 1:10.68 across the two runs.
Fellow senior Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine) finished less than a second behind Roy to earn second place individually. Dolan posted a first-run time of 36.20 seconds before finishing the second run in 35.19 seconds. His two runs combined for a time of 1:11.39.
First-year Magnus Riggs (Fletcher, Vt.) earned the bronze medal after finishing less than four hundredths of a second behind Dolan following a pair of standout runs. Riggs recorded a first-run time of 36.75 seconds and followed it with a 35.03-second second run, for a total time of 1:11.78.
The trio of Roy, Dolan, and Riggs combined for a team time of 3:33.85 to earn first place overall. The Beavers' time was nearly eight seconds faster than second-place Saint Joseph's College.
