RUMFORD, Maine - For the second consecutive day, the University of Maine at Farmington men's alpine team swept the podium, running away with the team victory for the sixth straight race of the season.
The Beavers' top three finishers combined to post a time of 4:33.50, finishing 12.5 seconds ahead of Saint Joseph's College of Maine, which placed second with a cumulative time of 4:46.02.
Beaver Skiers:
For the first time in his collegiate career, first-year Magnus Riggs (Fletcher, Vt.) topped the podium, bringing home the gold medal. Riggs finished his two runs with a combined time of 1:31.08, posting a 43.80-second first run and a 47.28-second second run. He narrowly edged teammate Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine), who finished just six-hundredths of a second behind.
Roy recorded a total time of 1:31.14 after a pair of efficient runs to take second place overall. He finished his first run in 44.14 seconds before clocking a 47.00-second second run, the fastest of any skier on the mountain.
Senior Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine) finished just 0.14 seconds behind Roy, earning third place and his second podium in as many days. Dolan posted a first-run time of 44.25 seconds and sat in fifth place heading into the second run. He followed with a 47.03-second run to post a total time of 1:31.28 and move into third.
Riggs, Roy, and Dolan also podiumed on Saturday, helping the Beavers sweep the weekend at Black Mountain.
