Women’s Soccer Opens Conference Play with 0-0 Tie at Thomas

WATERVILLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie on Wednesday evening on the road against Thomas College in what was their 2024 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener.

The Records:

Wednesday's tie marks the first such result for Farmington this season whose record now sits at 2-3-1. Thomas is now 0-1-1 with their loss coming against Maine Maritime.

How it Happened:

Junior forward Natalie Tracy (Oakland, Maine) came off the bench and instantly became a difference maker with her speed and ball pursuit. Tracy registered a pair of strong shot attempts in her first ten minutes on the field, but Terrier goalkeeper Emily Rock made sound saves on both attempts to keep Farmington off the scoreboard.

Farmington closed the half with some sustained offensive pressure, registering four shots, two of them on frame, and a corner kick in the final seven and a half minutes giving them the unquestioned momentum heading into the 2nd half.

The Offensive pressure for the Beavers continued to start the 2nd half but they were unable to beat Rock who was strong in net all game.

Tracy had a golden opportunity to score in the 73rd minute off a Beaver corner kick. Her shot was saved off the line by a Terrier defender, keeping the game knotted a zero.

Thomas was able to generate some offensive opportunities of their own midway through the 2nd half but junior goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) thwarted each Terrier attempt to maintain the scoreless tie.

Team Stats:

The Beavers held a majority of the possession, leading to a 16-9 advantage in shots, a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal, and a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Goalkeepers:

Gonya picked up her first shutout of the season, making five saves in the contest. Rock made nine saves to pick up her first clean sheet of the season.
