Late Goal Downs Beavers In NAC Battle with Mariners

FARMINGTON, Maine - After Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) had scored a pivotal, game-tying goal in the 85th minutes, Kirra Magana scored a goal with just 29 seconds left in the game, leading the Mariners to a 4-3 victory at Prescott Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Records:

The Beavers fell to 2-4-1 with an 0-1-1 record in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play following Saturday's loss. The Mariners improved to 3-2-1 with a 2-1 record in NAC play with the victory.

How it Happened:

The Beavers scored the first goal of the game in the 13th minute when senior Grace Mahmood (Oxford, Conn.) finished off a beautiful feed from fellow senior Abby Lash (Waldoboro, Maine) to take the early lead.

The Beavers lead lasted just a minute and five seconds as Magana scored her first goal of the game, tying the game up at one at the 13:14 mark.

Magana gave the Mariners their first lead of the game less than three minutes later, polishing off a pass from Abby Wong to make it a 2-1 lead in the 16th minute.

The Beavers didn't quit after surrendering the lead as junior Natalie Tracy (Oakland, Maine) added to her team-high total, scoring her 3rd goal of the season in the 31st minute, tying the game at two heading into halftime.

The 2nd half was relatively quiet until the final six minutes. The last six minutes of the game were absolutely crazy as the Mariners took the lead on the hat-trick goal from Magana six minutes and four seconds left to play.

The lead did not last more than a minute as Dwyer scored her first goal of the season just 48 seconds later to tie the game up at three.

The game seemed destined to end in a tie following Dwyer's goal, but Magana wasn't done. Magana notched the game-winner with 29 seconds, picking up her 4th goal of the game to lead Maine Maritime to an important conference victory.

Team Stats:

Maine Maritime carried advantages in shots (18-8), shots on goal (12-5), and corner kicks (5-4) in the victory.

The Goalkeepers:
