Beavers Take Down Keene State in Game One, Fall to CMSV in Game Two to End Myrtle Beach Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina - The University of Maine at Farmington split in the two games that they played on Friday, ending their Myrtle Beach trip with a 6-2 record.

Game One

The Beavers got on the board first, scoring right away in the top of the 1st inning. Abby Wrinn (Wolcott, Conn.) scored an unearned run after getting all the way to third base on a misplay by the Owls' centerfielder and coming into score on a sacrifice fly from Jojo Daignault (Canton, Conn.).

The Beavers tacked on two more runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Daigneault started the rally with a one-out single to left center. Maddie Pike (Kennebunk, Maine) followed with a double to right center, giving the Beavers two runners in scoring position. Daigneault came into score on a SAC fly from Christa Allen (Harrison, Maine), and Grace Pratt (Rockland, Maine) delivered a two-out RBI single to bring in Pike and make it a 3-0 game.

Farmington broke the game open in the 4th, scoring four more runs to make it a 7-0 ballgame. Wrinn ripped an RBI single to bring in Olivia Paradis (Saco, Maine), who had doubled to lead off the inning. Pike continued her torrid start to the season, lacing another double to bring home Wrinn and Emily Collins (Moscow, Maine). Pike came in to score on a wild pitch later in the inning.

After posting three scoreless innings to open the game, the Owls scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the 4th off Beavers starting pitcher Mack Bergen (Winnipeg, Manitoba). Hayley Townsend delivered a SAC fly, and Emma Chenette came in to score later in the inning on a play where the Beavers threw out Abbie Monkevicz trying to steal 2nd.

The Beavers had another big inning in the 6th, scoring four more runs to all but put the game away. After a Daigneault single and back-to-back walks to Pike and Allen, Bergen ripped an RBI single to right to score Daigneault and make it an 8-2 game. Pike scored on an RBI groundout from Pratt, and Paradis crushed her second double of the game, bringing in Bergen and Allen to open up an 11-2 lead for Farmington.

RBI singles from Monkevicz and Molly Murray in the bottom of the 6th inning made it a seven-run game and extended the game for Keene State.

Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) walked and scored on an error in the top of the 7th to make it a 12-4 game and close out the score for Farmington.

Bergen pitched a complete game, picking up her second win of the season and striking out seven. Paradis was a big stick in the lineup for the Beavers today, going 4-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored. Wrinn, Daigneault, Pike, and Pratt all recorded two hits as the Beavers finished with a season-high 15 en route to their 6th victory.

Lily Mandel picked up the loss for Keene, surrendering seven run in 3.1 innings pitched. Murray went 3-4 with an RBI, while Morgan Rodrigues and Emma Chennette each tallied a pair of hits to lead the Owls offensively.

Game Two

The College of Mount Saint Vincent used a big 3rd inning to push themselves past the Beavers in Farmington's final game of their spring road trip.

After both teams were held scoreless in the first two innings, the Dolphins tacked on five runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to break open the ballgame. Mila Gutierrez was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Sabrina Colon followed with a single to put CMSV in business right away. After a Simone Caruso sacrifice bunt moved Gutierrez and Colon up to 2nd and 3rd with one out, Savannah Autobee reached on an error that allowed both Gutierrez and Colon to score.

Consecutive singles from Sierra Romero and Ireyshka Lebron loaded the bases for the Dolphins with still only one away. The next batter was Paige Goerman who cleared the bases with a triple down the right field line to make it a 5-0 game. Rita Benoit threw out Goerman at the plate as she tried to score on a fly out to end the inning.

The Beavers loaded the bases in the top of the 4th and scored two runs, but the Dolphins added another run in the bottom half of the inning to maintain their lead.

Farmington's offense scored two more runs in the 5th inning, but the Dolphins responded with three runs in the bottom of the 6th to secure the win.

The Beavers scattered six hits in game two. Dow went 2-3 with a run scored to lead the Beavers offensively. Carleigh Schievink (Charlestown, Mass.) pitched the first three innings of the game, surrendering five runs on eight hits to pick up the loss.

All nine of the hitters in the CMSV lineup recorded a hit. Lebron went 3-4 with two runs scored while Romero and Goerman each had two hits for the Dophins.
