Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Seven Beavers Score in Victory Over VTSU Lyndon on Senior Day

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team saw seven different players find the back of the net on Saturday afternoon en route to an 8-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest that was the Beavers senior day.

Prior to Saturday's 1:00 PM game time, the women's soccer team took time to celebrate the accomplishments of six seniors who have left a lasting imprint on the program. Lily Souza (Wiscasset, Maine), Audrey Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine), Abby Lebel (Lisbon, Maine), Kiley Merritt (Lisbon Falls, Maine), Emily Boyle (Orleans, Mass.), and Sydney Belanger (Wells, Maine) will be graduating in the spring, each playing an important part in the success of the program over recent years.

Once the game began, the Beavers wasted no time finding the scoreboard against the undermanned Hornets. Sophomore midfielder Hannah Wilbur (Farmington, Maine) found the back of the net, heading in a corner kick off the foot of Fletcher.

Despite playing with just eight players for the entirety of the game, the Hornets stayed strong, keeping the Beavers from scoring their 2nd goal until the 35:20 mark when Grace Mahmood (Oxford, Maine) scored her 3rd goal of the season off a feed from Hannah Milliken (Greene, Maine).

The Beavers were able to open the floodgates a bit in the 2nd half, tacking on six goals by five different players to make it an 8-0 game.

Merritt found the back of the net on a beautiful feed from Abby Lash (Waldoboro, Maine) in the 51st minute. Just four minutes later first-year Rita Benoit (Hallowell, Maine) tipped in a deflection off a corner kick from Boyle to make it a 4-0 game.

Fletcher scored a pair of goals five minutes apart midway through the 2nd half to extend the lead to 6-0. The goals from Fletcher were her 12th and 13th of the season. Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) and Boyle picked up the assists on Fletcher's goals.

Boyle picked up a goal of her own in the 74th minute, converting a penalty kick to make it 7-0 Beavers.

In the 83rd minute sophomore Grace White (Waldoboro, Maine) finished off Saturday afternoon's scoring, finding the open net on a cross from McKenna Redstone (Turner, Maine) that squeaked through a pair of Hornet defenders.

For the Hornets, Karly Cordwell was outstanding in goal, posting 26 saves in the loss.

The Beavers held huge advantages in shots (53-0), shots on goal (34-0), and corner kicks (26-0).
