CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team's season came to a close on Saturday afternoon as the Beavers dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) quarterfinal on the road against top-seeded Lesley University, 4-0.
The Lynx scored four goals in the 1st half to help en route to clinching their spot in Sunday afternoon's NAC semifinal contest against Maine Maritime.Â
Sage Henry got the Lynx on the scoreboard in the 5th minute when she pocketed a shot into the back of the net off a cross from Tatiana Ledesma.
Five minutes after Henry's opening strike, she was taken down in the box as Lesley was awarded a penalty kick. Keira Bergman took the penalty kick and beat a sprawling Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) to extend the Lesley lead to 2-0.
In the 23rd minute Haile Carillo Hayes carried the ball deep into the corner before sending a pass to Sacha Porter who one-timed a pass over to Hayes who found the back of the net for the second time in the 1st half to give Lesley a three goal advantage.
In the 32nd minute Abby Kalou powered in a rebound off a shot from Henry, extending the Lesley lead to 4-0, a lead the Lynx took into halftime.
The Beavers were unable to manage any offense in the opening half, getting out shot 15-0. However, the Beavers were able to manage some more sustained pressure in the 2nd half but were unable to find the back of the net.Â
The Beavers best opportunity to score came in the 81st minute when senior Audrey Fletcher rang to crossbar but the ball stayed out to keep the Beavers off the scoreboard.
The Lynx outshot the Beavers 20-5 in the game, including 12-2 in shots on goal. Lesley also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) finished off her stellar season by recording eight saves for the Beavers.
