FARMINGTON, Maine - Three different Beavers scored goals as the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team snapped a three-game losing skid with a 3-1 win against Eastern Nazarene College on Tuesday afternoon at Leib Field.
Senior Audrey Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine) got the Beavers on the scoreboard in the 20th minute, picking up her 11th goal of the season. Fletcher received a ball along the left wing around the edge of the box from Abby Lash (Waldoboro, Maine), took a touch to the middle past one Lion defender, took another touch to her right past a second Lion defender before rifling a shot over the head of Mackenzie Quick to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.Â
Sophomore goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) made a pair of saves on two Kayla Dorn shots late in the 1st half to help the Beavers bring a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Following the halftime intermission, sophomore midfielder Hannah Wilbur (Farmington, Maine) found the back of the net for the 2nd time this season when she scored on a beautiful header that deflected off the crossbar and into the back of the net off from a corner kick taken by senior Emily Boyle (Orleans, Mass.).
The Lions answered nine minutes later when Kayla Dorn ripped a one-timer shortside past a diving Gonya to cut the Beavers lead to 2-1. Kenna Cruise was awarded the assist on the goal from Dorn.
The Beavers did not wait long to find a response. A great team passing play set up a Grace Mahmood (Oxford, Conn.) goal to make it 3-1. Abby Lash took a throw-in, quickly found Boyle who turned middle and found Wilbur at midfield. Wilbur took two touches before finding Rita Benoit (Hallowell, Maine). Benoit took two touches and found Fletcher who gathered and sent a beautiful through ball to a wide-open Mahmood along the right side of the box. Mahmood took a touch to gather herself and locate Quick before placing a shot to the bottom corner for her 2nd goal of the season.
The Beavers were able to generate a couple more scoring opportunities in the closing minutes of the game but were unable to find the back of the net.Â
The Beavers finished with advantages in shots (19-6), shots on goal (11-5) and corner kicks (4-3).
Gonya tallied four saves in goal for the Beavers while Quick posted eight saves for Eastern Nazarene.
