FARMINGTON, Maine - For the first time in recent memory, the University of Maine at Farmington women's nordic team hosted an ECSC and USCSA Invitational at Titcomb Mountain this past weekend.
The Beavers came away with a pair of third-place finishes while competing against several Division I and Division III programs.
Saturday Highlights:
Saturday's event was a sprint that divided competitors into heats, with the top finishers from each heat advancing until just six skiers remained. Senior Ayla Bodach-Turner (East Montpelier, Vt.) was the quickest skier on the course, advancing through each of her heats to earn a spot in the finals. Bodach-Turner claimed first place after finishing the finals heat in 3:34.8, a time that was 3.6 seconds faster than Isabelle Serrano of UVM.
Junior Cora Treiss (Berlin, N.H.) turned in a strong performance, earning 19th place overall out of 57 competitors. Treiss was also the fourth-fastest USCSA skier on the course, finishing with a time of 4:04.5.
Sophomore Kelsey McCrum (Greenbush, Maine) was the third Beaver to contribute to the team's overall placement, finishing 27th overall. McCrum posted a time of 4:28.9 and placed seventh among USCSA competitors.
Senior Hokulani Caroselli (Temple, Maine) and first-year Abbie Dumont (Windham, Maine) also competed for the Beavers on Saturday but did not factor into the team scoring. Caroselli recorded a time of 5:00.2 to place 36th, while Dumont finished in 5:48.6 and tied for 47th overall.
Sunday Highlights:
The Beavers were once again led by Bodach-Turner, who placed second in an extremely competitive field. Bodach-Turner completed the 10K classic-style event in 41:09.1, finishing two minutes behind Natalie Hood of Bowdoin College. Her time was the fastest among all USCSA skiers.
Treiss closed out the weekend with another strong effort, racing to a 14th-place finish. She posted a time of 45:18.1 and finished fourth among USCSA competitors for the second consecutive day.
McCrum was the ninth-fastest USCSA skier and placed 23rd overall after crossing the line in 53:42.1.
Dumont delivered another solid race on Sunday, completing the 10K in 1:01:38.8. She finished 38th overall and placed 22nd among USCSA competitors.
