Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Beavers Score 10, Cruise Past Hornets

FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team took advantage of an undermanned Vermont State University Lyndon squad, scoring 10 first-half goals en route to a 10-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory at home on Tuesday afternoon.

The Records:

Farmington improved to 3-2-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in NAC play, while Lyndon fell to 0-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference action.

How It Happened:

Playing with just nine players for the entirety of the match, the Hornets were unable to match Farmington's quick-strike offense. Senior forward Natalie Tracy (Oakland, Maine) opened the scoring in the 9th minute, racing past the Hornets' back line and dribbling around the goalkeeper for her first goal of the afternoon.

Junior midfielder Rita Benoit (Hallowell, Maine) followed with three goals in an 11-minute span to record her first collegiate hat trick, bringing her season total to five goals.

Benoit's first and third goals bookended a dominant Beaver stretch, during which they scored seven straight goals to break the game open. Miah Coffin (Otis, Maine), Kyri Meak (Winslow, Maine), Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine), and Tracy all added goals in that decisive run.

Junior forward Peyton Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) netted her first goal of the season in the 31st minute, finishing a perfectly placed feed along the goalmouth from Makenzie Rushlow (Corinth, Maine). Rushlow then scored her third goal of the season just before halftime, giving Farmington a 10-0 lead at the break.

Senior defender Kiley Meader (Oakland, Maine) and Rushlow each recorded two assists, while Meak, Benoit, and Coffin each added one.

Stats of the Game:
  • Shots: Farmington 25, Lyndon 0
  • Shots on Goal: Farmington 18, Lyndon 0
  • Corner Kicks: Farmington 1, Lyndon 0
The Goalkeepers:

Seniors Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) and Liana Sawyer (Londonderry, N.H.) split time in goal but did not face a shot. Kerisa Van Olst finished with eight saves for the Hornets.
