FARMINGTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington field hockey standouts
Zoey Pennell (Saco, Maine) and
Mikayla Wilcox (Farmington, Maine) were recognized with weekly honors from the Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CMCFHC) on Monday afternoon. Pennell was named Player of the Week, while Wilcox earned Rookie of the Week.
Pennell was outstanding in Saturday's matchup against Elms College, the Beavers' lone contest of the week. The junior transfer filled the stat sheet, finishing with two goals and an assist while recording a game-high 11 shots, including six on target. Beyond her offensive impact, Pennell showcased her versatility by shifting between multiple positions, contributing on the defensive end during penalty corners, and controlling the pace of play.
On the season, Pennell has started all six games, tallying three goals and two assists.
Wilcox, a sophomore competing in her first season with the Beavers, has also provided a major offensive spark. Against the Blazers, she scored twice on seven shots, six of which were on frame, with her goals coming in the first and third quarters of UMaine-Farmington's 7-0 victory.
Through six games, Wilcox leads the Beavers with four goals and has added one assist. She also shares the team lead in minutes played, logging 319 so far this season.
The weekly honors are the first of both Pennell's and Wilcox's UMaine-Farmington careers.
