Written By: Aaron Goschke '25

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The University of Maine at Farmington softball team opened the 2025 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship Tournament with a commanding 7-1 victory over fifth-seeded SUNY Delhi on Thursday morning at Fighting Tiger Park.

The Records:

UMaine-Farmington improved to 15-16 overall and advanced in the winners' bracket, while SUNY Delhi dropped to 14-19 and moved into the elimination bracket.

UMaine-Farmington 7, SUNY Delhi 1

How It Happened:

After a scoreless top of the first from the Broncos, the Beavers wasted no time seizing control. Melissa Mayo (Bridgton, Maine) reached on a walk and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Maddie Pike (Kennebunk, Maine) opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Katie Morse (Dixfield, Maine) followed with a triple to deep right-center to bring home Pike, giving UMF an early 2-0 lead.

UMF added to the advantage in the second inning. Olivia Paradis (Saco, Maine) reached on a single, and Emily Collins (Moscow, Maine) drew a walk to set the table. Abby Wrinn (Wolcott, Conn.) ripped an RBI single to score Paradis. Mayo then stepped up again with a clutch two-run double, pushing the Beaver lead to 5-0.

Delhi cut into the Beavers' lead in the top of the fifth. Sidney Cooper hit a one-out single and then came around to score on a two-out triple from Stephanie Huckabee.

The Beavers added insurance in the fifth inning as Christa Allen (Harrison, Maine) and Morse went back-to-back with solo home runs to stretch the lead to 7-1.

In the Circle:

Mack Bergen (Winnipeg, Manitoba) turned in a strong performance, going 5.0 innings while allowing just one earned run on five hits and striking out five to earn the win (6-8). Carleigh Schievink (Charlestown, Mass.) was excellent in relief, tossing two scoreless innings to close out the game.
