GORHAM, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field team wrapped up its first-semester action at the USM Alumni Open on Saturday. The meet was not a team-scored event.
Top Beaver Performances:
Junior thrower Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) had a standout day, earning a top spot in the shot put while also adding a fourth-place finish in the weight throw. Crews' best shot put attempt measured 13.93 meters, more than 1.20 meters farther than any other competitor's throw. In the weight throw, his top mark was 11.49 meters.
First-year thrower Noel Matista (Danbury, Conn.) also had a strong showing alongside Crews. Matista placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 11.97 meters and added a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a best mark of 11.12 meters.
Senior Nate Trussell (Berwick, Maine) finished the 55 meters in 6.75 seconds to earn a third-place finish. Trussell, along with Logan Burns (Isleboro, Maine), Chase Nixon (Milton, Mass.), and Lucas Witkowski (Cromwell, Conn.), placed second in the 4x200-meter relay, posting a time of 1:34.97—just 0.8 seconds behind Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
In the 300 meters, Farmington had three runners place inside the top eight. Witkowski earned fourth (37.52 seconds), Burns finished seventh (39.07), and Jake Lepper (Blue Hill, Maine) came in eighth (41.92).
Farmington also had four runners earn top-six finishes in the 1,000 meters. Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine) topped the field in 2:45.40, while Hans Bakke (York, Maine) placed third (2:53.85). Joseph Burgess (Gray, Maine) took fifth (2:58.41), and Jordan Castonguay (Sabattus, Maine) finished sixth (3:01.68).
The Beavers placed three runners inside the top seven of the 5,000 meters. Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) led the way with a third-place finish (15:42.23), James Riley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was sixth, and Alexander Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.) finished seventh (16:13.78).
Owen Booker (Lisbon, Maine) and Logan Arzate (New Harbor, Maine) each posted strong performances in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing seventh and ninth, respectively. Booker clocked a time of 9.10 seconds, while Arzate posted 10.69. Booker also earned a seventh-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.45 meters.
Nixon added a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters on his first attempt.
