WATERVILLE, Maine — Fresh off scoring a career-high 32 points on Friday evening, University of Maine at Farmington sophomore guard Zach McLaughlin (Hampden, Maine) has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Week for the first time in his young career.
McLaughlin was ultra-efficient in his 32-point performance, shooting 12-for-18 from the floor and 5-for-9 from beyond the arc, helping Farmington secure an 83–61 win over VTSU Castleton. He scored at all three levels; getting to the rim in transition, breaking down the zone from long range, and knocking down midrange shots. His five made three-pointers also marked a new career high.
McLaughlin continued his strong week by scoring 16 points in just 22 minutes of action in Farmington's 82-64 win over Norwich. He shot 5-for-15 from the field and connected on a pair of three-pointers.
For the week, McLaughlin averaged 24.0 points per game while shooting 51.5% from the floor and 43.8% from beyond the arc, helping the Beavers go 2-0 and improve to 2-1 on the season.
McLaughlin was named the NAC Rookie of the Week twice last season.
McLaughlin and the Beavers return to action on Wednesday evening, taking on Bowdoin College at 7:00 PM in Dearborn Gymnasium.
