HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College field hockey team scored just three minutes and 13 seconds into the first quarter and never looked back en route to a 3-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday afternoon.

The Beavers dropped to 3-8 overall with the loss, while the Pilgrims picked up their ninth win, improving to 9-3.

Kira Geddes opened the scoring for the Pilgrims, depositing her own rebound into the back of the cage to make it 1-0 in the fourth minute of play.
The Beavers looked to respond three minutes later, earning their first penalty corner of the game. After Gabby Vincentsen (Bristol, Maine) inserted the corner, the ball ended up on the stick of Ruby Taylor (Poland, Maine), whose shot was blocked.
In the early minutes of the second quarter, NEC doubled its lead when Kacey McClay scored in a similar fashion to Geddes. Tatum Golis fired a shot that was stopped by senior goalkeeper Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.), but the rebound found McClay, who didn't miss the back of the cage.
Clinging to a 2-0 advantage heading into the third quarter, the Pilgrims tacked on an insurance goal in the 39th minute. Adelaide Kelly picked up a loose ball in the circle and fired a shot past the lunging Grant to make it 3-0.
