Beavers Come Up Short at Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, New Hampshire - The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team was unable to keep pace with the uptempo offense of Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon, dropping a non-conference contest to the Panthers, 7-0.

The Records:

The Beavers entered play with an 0-4 record while Plymouth came in at .500, 2-2.

How it Happened:

The Panthers got on the board quickly as Jenne Stowell notched a pair of goals just a minute and six second apart in the opening moments of the game to stake the hosts to an early 2-0 lead.

After a beautifully executed penalty corner, Caroline Coleman belted a shot past Beaver goalkeeper Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) to extend Plymouth's lead to 3-0 in the opening ten minutes of the game. Mackenzie Labrie picked up the assist on Coleman's goal.

The Beavers kept the Panthers off the scoreboard for most of the 2nd period until Labrie found the cage with just 39 seconds left to push the lead up to four heading into halftime.

Just before halftime, Gabby Vincensten (Bristol, Maine) had possibly the Beavers best opportunity to score, blasting a shot on goal but Piper Sherbert turned the opportunity away to keep Farmington off the scoreboard.

Similarly to the 2nd quarter, Farmington kept the Panthers off the scoreboard for a majority of the 3rd quarter. But one again in the final minute, this time with just 20 seconds to play, Plymouth tallied a goal to end the period with all the momentum. Sarah Adamske tallied the goal for the Panthers who led 5-0 after 45 minutes.

Alessio Salzillo and Adamske added goals in the 4th quarter to make it a 7-0 game and finish the scoring on Saturday afternoon.

Team Stats:

The Panthers held steep advantages in shots (26-3), shots on goal (15-3), and penalty corners (15-1).

The Goalkeepers:

Grant played 45 minutes in goal today for the Beavers, making six saves. Charlotte Beckwith (Hampden, Maine) made her collegiate debut and made two saves in 15 minutes. Shibert made three saves to pick up the shutout.
