WATERVILLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team took on Mount Holyoke on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest played at Thomas College. The Lyons took down the Beavers, 4-0 to move to 2-2 on the young season. The Beavers' record drops to 0-3 after the loss.
Jayonna Montigny scored a pair of goals for the Lyons as they outscored the Beavers 3-0 in the 3rd quarter en route to the victory. The Lyons cracked the scoreboard in the 10th minute when Ashley Scott ripped a shot past Beaver goalkeeper Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.). Emily Bisson picked up the assist on Scott's goal.
The Beavers defense and Grant hung tough in the opening half. The Lyons attempted 17 shots in the 1st half keeping the Beavers defenders on their toes. Grant recorded eight saves in the half. Junior defender Emma Willey (Lisbon, Maine) recorded two defensive saves in the 2nd quarter, clearing the ball off the goal line and keeping the Beaver deficit at one.
Mount Holyoke was able to get through the stout Beavers defense in the 3rd quarter. The Lyons scored three times to take a 4-0 lead. Jayonna Montigny scored in the opening minutes of the 2nd half, converting on a well-executed penalty corner. Anna Induni was credited with the assist.
Three minutes later Laurissa Montigny scored a goal of her own, executing another penalty corner for the Lyons. Induni was credited with the assist on the goal.
Jayonna Montigny added her 2nd goal of the game in the final minutes of the 3rd quarter to make it a 4-0 Lyon advantage.
The Beavers were able to generate some offense of their own in the 4th quarter, picking up a pair of shots on goal and three penalty corners. The Beavers had a great opportunity to score on a great shot from junior Tiana McDougall (Corinth, Maine) but Laurissa Montigny was credited with a defensive save to rob McDougall of a goal.
Grant was phenomenal in goal for the Beavers this afternoon. She picked up 13 saves, several of which were from point blank range.
The Lyons held advantages in shots (33-3), shots on goal (21-2), and penalty corners (16-5).

The Beavers travel to Gorham on Wednesday, September 13th to take on the University of Southern Maine. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
