Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Farmington Unable to Keep Pace with Bates

LEWISTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team traveled to Bates College this evening to take on the Bobcats in a non-conference contest. The Beavers were unable to keep pace with the Bobcats high-powered offense, dropping the contest, 87-40.

The Bobcats led from wire to wire to pick up their first win of the season. Davina Kabantu scored the first five points of the game for Bates, hitting a jumper, a layup, and a free throw to give the Bobcats a quick 5-1 lead. A bucket from Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) and a three from Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) kept the Beavers within striking distance at 8-6 with just under four minutes to play in the opening quarter.

With the Beavers behind 10-7 with three minutes to play, the Bobcats finished  the quarter on a 6-0 spurt to take a 16-7 lead heading into the 2nd quarter behind a pair of jumpers from Danielle Adams.

The game began to get away from the Beavers in the 2nd quarter as the Bobcats offense got rolling, out scoring Farmington 22-11 in the quarter, including opening the quarter on a 20-5 run. The Beavers shot just 11.8% (2-17) from the field while Bates shot 42.1% (8-19) from the field in the quarter.

The Bobcats offense kept rolling in the 3rd quarter, using very balanced scoring to extend their lead to 64-24 through three quarters. Seven different Bobcats recorded a field goal, including four players who scored four or more points in the quarter. Bates' defense also continued to stifle the Beavers who shot 2-14 from the field in the quarter and turned the ball over ten times.

Farmington settled down in the fourth quarter, turning the ball over just once, but the game was out of reach.
Dow led the Beavers with nine points while Dwyer tallied eight points and seven rebounds. Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) added seven points for the Beavers. Farmington finished the game shooting 19.3% (11-57) from the field and 20% (4-20) from downtown.

The Bobcats had three players in double-figures led by Danielle Adams' 14 points off the bench. Adams also added 12 rebounds to record the double-double. Kabantu and Mya Hicks added 11 points. Every Bobcat who played in the game registered a made field goal. Bates shot 44.2% (34-77) from the field and 31.8% (7-22) from three for the game.
