Beavers Drop Final Home Game of the Season to Thomas

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team hosted Thomas College on Tuesday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest in what was the Beavers final home game of the season. A pair of Terriers combined for seven goals in their 7-0 victory over the Beavers.

The Beavers first-year goalie Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) was outstanding in goal, recording 17 saves under the continual pressure. In the 5th minute Grant made three quick saves over a five second span to help keep the Terriers off the scoreboard early. Sophomore defender Allie Bliss (Underhill, Vermont) was also credited with a defensive save in the 5th minute for the Beavers.

The Terriers were kept off the scoreboard until the 13 minute mark of the 1st quarter when Samantha Thebarge ripped a slap shot from the top of the penalty area past Grant. The goal was set up from a penalty corner that was inserted by Eva-Marie Stevens.

On an almost identical play in the 22nd minute, Thebarge ripped another slap shot past Grant off a penalty corner insert from Stevens to make it 2-0 Terriers.

The Terriers were awarded a penalty stroke in the 24th minute which was converted by Julia Reny to extend the lead to 3-0.

Reny and Thebarge added goals in the final two minutes of the 2nd quarter to help the Terriers take a 5-0 lead into halftime.

Reny continued her scoring ways in the 2nd half, adding a pair of goals in the 3rd quarter, including an impressive tip-in to finish off Tuesday's scoring.

The Beavers were able to get some offense going in the 4th quarter tallying a pair of shots on goal including a blast from Bayley Casavant (Corinth, Maine) that was labeled for the bottom left corner but Mackenzie Toner made a strong kick save to deny Casavant.

Following the loss the Beavers moved to 1-13 on the season with a 1-3 record in NAC games. Thomas is now 10-7 on the season with a 2-1 record in conference.

The Terriers held advantages in shots (42-2), shots on goal (25-2), and penalty corners (34-4).
