Beavers Fall to Huskies on the Road

GORHAM, Maine - The University of Southern Maine Huskies beat the University of Maine at Farmington this evening 4-0 at Hannaford Field. Following the loss the Beavers drop to 1-4 while the Huskies improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Huskies four goals were tallied by four different players in their winning effort. Junior Catrina Gould (Freeport, Maine) got things started off for the home team when she collected the loose ball in the box and slid one home in the 17th minute. Gaby Panagakos (Scarborough, Maine) followed up with a goal of her own in the 28th minute, doubling the Huskies lead.

The Beavers defended hard in the opening half, fighting off 19 shots, keeping the deficit at two going into the break. However, the Huskies were able to tally insurance goals in the second half, as Gould tallied her second marker in the 56th minute and Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine) finished off the scoring for the Huskies with a goal in the 68th minute.

The Beavers got a strong performance once again out of freshman goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) who registered nine saves in the contest.

The Huskies held an advantage in shots (32-2), shots on goal (13-1), and corner kicks (4-0) in the contest.
