NEW LONDON, New Hampshire – The Colby-Sawyer College Chargers shut out the UMaine-Farmington Beavers on Sunday afternoon by a 8-0 count. The win improves the Chargers record to 4-1 while the Beavers fall to 0-4.
The Chargers jumped out to an early lead as they scored three minutes and 14 seconds into the first quarter when first-year Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) scored the first of her four goals of the day off an assist by Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.). Gaudette quickly doubled the lead when she found the cage off a pass from Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) on a penalty corner.
Gaudette added her third tally in the second quarter to give the Chargers a 4-0 lead heading into halftime. The Chargers got third period goals from Gaudette, Bella Silver (Danvers, Mass.) and Abigail Hanney (Salem, Conn.) tallied goals to up the lead to 7-0 heading to the fourth.
The Beavers wouldn't go down without a fight as they upped their pressure in the fourth quarter when they registered four shots on goal in the quarter.
Katelyn Rouleau (Freeport, Maine) and Alicia Bridges (Livermore Falls, Maine) share time in the goal for the Beavers, combining for 20 saves on the day. Rouleau registered 12 saves while Bridges tallied eight.
Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) tallied four saves in registering the shutout on Sunday afternoon.
