Eagles Take Down Beavers

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine - The Husson University Eagles got an outstanding performance out of Natalie Aviola (Hudson, Fla.) on Saturday afternoon as the sophomore tallied four goals for the Eagles en route taking down the UMaine-Farmington Beavers 6-2.

The Beavers controlled the pace of play for the first ten minutes of the contest as they registered three shots and held possession in the offensive third for a majority of the opening minutes. The Eagles opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Aviola found the back of the net on a shot that deflected in off freshman goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine).

Aviola found the net again just five minutes later as she snuck another one past Gonya on a ball the pin balled off a few players inside the box before it landed on Aviola's foot and her shot found the back of the goal to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

The score remained 2-0 into halftime. At the half the Beavers switched goalkeepers as junior Lily Souza (Wiscasset, Maine) took over in net. The Eagles added a third marker in the opening minute of the half as Willow Whitten (Caribou, Maine) tallied a goal just 56 seconds into the half off a feed from Aviola.

Husson grabbed a four goal lead when Charlotte Messer (Rockport, Maine) found the back of the net in the 59th minute. The Beavers would answer just 28 seconds later when Abby Lash (Waldoboro, Maine) scored off from a feed from Audrey Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine).

Fletcher would cut the Eagles deficit to two in the 68th minute when she buried a penalty kick into the bottom corner of the goal. But the Eagles and Aviola would have answers as she tallied two more goals, one in the 74th minute and the second in the 79th.

Megan Buddemeyer (Portsmouth, RI) finished with two assists for the Eagles.

The Beavers drop to 1-2 on the season while the Eagles jump to 2-2.
