Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Beavers Score Three in the Second Half in Route to a 3-0 Win Over Anchorwomen

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team defeated Rhode Island College on Sunday afternoon in their final game of the regular season by a score of 3-0. The Beavers finish off their regular season with an 8-6-3 record.

The Beavers and the Anchorwomen battled to a scoreless first half. The Anchorwomen had the best opportunity to score in the first half when Tayla Salome (Lincoln, R.I) was able to split a pair of Beaver defenders and was alone with Beaver goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine). Salome fired a shot that Gonya made a sliding save on but the rebound went directly to Salome. It looked like Salome would be able to tuck away the rebound as Gonya was getting back up. Freshman defender Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) came out of nowhere to block Salome's second opportunity. Salome would get a third shot off, but Gonya was able to recover and make the save and keep the game scoreless.

It didn't take long after halftime for the Beavers to break the tie as Audrey Fletcher scored her 10th goal of the season just two and a half minutes into the second half. Abby Lash (Waldoboro, Maine) dumped the ball in on the Anchorwomen defense who were unable to settle it down and clear it away as Fletcher was able to steal it, and make a nice move to her left foot before sniping the corner of the net.

The Beavers would get a pair of goals from Emily Boyle (Orleans, Mass.) and Lash about 45 seconds apart in the 76th and 77th minutes. Boyle's goal was scored after Fletcher received the ball off a throw-in deep in the corner, beat two defenders and fired a cross to Boyle who one-timed it into the back of the net. Lash's goal came off a Boyle corner kick that Lash was able to get her head on and direct it into the back of the net to give the Beavers their third goal.

Gonya was great in net for the Beavers as she made several great saves to pitch the shutout. Gonya made eight saves in the contest and picked up the Beavers fourth shutout of the season. Maya Benedict (Tempe, Ariz.) made eight saves for the Anchorwomen.

The Beavers held advantages in shots (18-15) and shots on goal (11-8). Rhode Island College held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
