Huskies Take Down Beavers in a Non-Conference Battle

FARMINGTON, Maine - On a wet and dreary afternoon at Prescott Field, the University of Southern Maine Huskies came to Farmington and topped the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team 7-0. The loss for the Beavers drops their record to 1-9 on the year while the Huskies improve to 10-5.

The Huskies were led offensively by sophomore Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine) who netted a pair of goals in the contest. Drinkwater opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the game when she scored an unassisted marker. The Huskies doubled their lead four minutes later as Samantha Ellis (New Vineyard, Maine) scored on a feed from Brooke Carson (Bryant Pond, Maine).

Drinkwater would tally her second goal of the game 37 seconds into the second quarter to give the Huskies a three goal advantage. Emma Samson (Auburn, Maine) would notch the assist on Drinkwater's second goal. 

Chloe Arsenault (Boothbay, Maine) and Sam Ellis (New Vineyard, Maine) added goals in the second half for the Huskies while Samson added two. 

Samson finished with two goals and an assist, Arsenault a goal and an assist, and Carson added two assists for the Huskies.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Bridges (Livermore Falls, Maine) registered six saves for the Beavers. Allie Bliss (Underhill, Vermont), Taylor Nelson (Saco, Maine), and Jennasea Hubbard (Waterville, Maine) recorded shots for the Beavers.

Husky goalkeeper Eleanor Folsom (Winthrop, Maine) did not register a save in the shutout victory. Olivia Staggs (Sabattus, Maine) was credited with a defensive save for the Huskies.

UP NEXT

The Beavers will host New England College on Saturday, October 15th in a New England Collegiate Conference Battle at Prescott Field. Saturday also marks senior day where the Beavers will be honoring their three seniors.
