Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – A late second half goal from McKenna Brodeur was not quite enough offense to overcome a pair of Thomas College goals earlier in the frame, and the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Terriers on "Senior Day" Saturday afternoon at Leib Field.
The loss snapped the Beavers' four-game winning streak, and sends UMaine-Farmington (7-10-0, 3-2-0 NAC East) into next week's North Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament as the no. 3 seed in the East Division bracket. The Beavers will face no. 2 seed Husson University (10-4-2, 4-1-0 NAC East) on Saturday, Oct. 30, in Castine, Maine.
In Saturday's clash, neither the Beavers nor the Terriers were able to put a goal up on the scoreboard in the first half, despite UMaine-Farmington outshooting Thomas, 8-2, over the first 45 minutes of play.
Thomas finally ended the scoring drought in the 52nd minute on an unassisted goal by Katriana Pratt, giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
The Terriers' advantage was extended to 2-0 in the 69th minute when Pratt struck a second time, again unassisted.
UMaine-Farmington's intensity ramped up over the final 20 minutes, finally resulting in Brodeur's unassisted goal in the 82nd minute. However, the Beavers were unable to find the equalizer down the stretch to force the game into overtime.
The goal was Brodeur's 13th of the season and the 65th of her UMaine-Farmington career.
The Beavers outshot the Terriers, 15-4, and enjoyed the upper-hand in corner kicks, 8-2. UMaine-Farmington's Callie Hammer got the start in goal and did not record a save, while Maddie Rock, Isabelle Lang, and Lauren Bartlett shared time in the Thomas goal and amassed eight saves.
