USM's Hot Start Sinks UMF Women's Soccer

FARMINGTON, Maine -- University of Southern Maine (2-1) women's soccer scored three goals in the first five minutes of Wednesday night's non-conference meeting to pick up a 4-1 win over the University of Maine at Farmington (0-2) at Mt. Blue High School.

The Huskies opened up the scoring attack just 47 seconds into the game as sophomore Ally Little scored on an unassisted goal.  USM added another goal less than two minutes later on an unassisted goal by Jessica Preble. Analies Ross-Dyjak scored USM's final goal of the half just under the five-minute mark.

UMF junior forward Hadlee Yescott (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) got the Beavers on the board with an unassisted goal in the 35th minute. 

Dayna Staffiere found the back of the net off a pass from Ross-Dyjak to give the Huskies their final margin of victory.

In the second half, the Beavers outshot the Huskies 15-4 and 29-14 for the game, but were unable to get by sophomore keeper Taylor Canastra who turned away 10 shots on the night, to get the win.

UMF keeper Mikayla Cameron (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth) made three stops in her first collegiate start.

UMaine-Farmington travels to Emerson College on Saturday to continue non-conference play.
