Women's soccer downed by Southern Maine

FARMINGTON -- Heidi DeHaan (Lewiston, Maine) scored a goal and assisted on the other as the University of Southern Maine women's soccer topped the University of Maine at Farmington 2-0 in non-conference play today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers (1-2-1) are scheduled to visit Wheelock College Saturday at 1 p.m. The Huskies (2-4) are slated to travel to M.I.T. Saturday at 4 p.m.

DeHaan struck with an unassisted marker 5:38 into the match to give USM a 1-0 edge. The senior fed classmate Danielle Poulin (Readfield, Maine) for an insurance tally at 68:04.

The Beavers fired 16 shots (12 on goal) to the Huskies' 12, but USM netminder Kat Rothe (Leeds, Maine was up to task to any Farmington challenge with 12 saves.

Crystal Johnson (Cornville, Maine) registered three saves for the Beavers, who also held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
