WATERVILLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team was shut out by Thomas College, 6-0, on Wednesday evening in Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CMCFHC) action at Thomas College.
The Records:
Farmington moved to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in CMCFHC play following the loss. Thomas improved to 3-8 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
How it Happened:
The Beavers and Terriers battled through a scoreless opening quarter as both teams looked to establish offensive pressure. Thomas recorded three shots and four penalty corners during the opening 15 minutes, while Farmington was held without a shot.
Thomas broke through early in the second quarter when Abby Stevens scored her first goal of the evening 53 seconds into the period, giving the Terriers a 1-0 advantage.
Stevens struck again just 2:28 later, doubling the Thomas lead to 2-0.
The Terriers continued to apply pressure and extended their advantage to three goals when Stevens completed the hat trick in the 24th minute. Tatiana Roque was credited with the assist on the goal.
Thomas added another goal just over two minutes later when Samantha Thebarge found the back of the cage as the Terriers executed a penalty corner opportunity. Isabella Pelletier and Maci Freeman were given assists on the Thebarge goal that sent the Terriers into halftime with a 4-0 advantage.
Thomas added two more goals in the third quarter to pull away. Maci Freeman scored in the 33rd minute before Celia Stinson found the back of the cage 2:48 later, giving the Terriers a 6-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Farmington was unable to get much going offensively throughout the contest as they were held without a shot on target.

The Goalkeepers:
Hailey Johnson (Augusta, Maine) started in goal for the Beavers and made four saves while over the first three quarters of play..
Abigail Herlihy (Nashua, N.H.) played the final 15 minutes and made one save without allowing a goal.
Thomas split its goalkeeping duties as Eliya Drummond started and recorded a shutout over the opening 45 minutes before Madi Ross played the final 15 minutes.Â
